Stay close, screens and all.
I help parents and kids understand what screens do to the brain and body, and build a shared language and household rules the whole family can live with.
Dr. Tamar Cohen Borochovitz · PhD, Social Work
Hi, I'm Tamar.
For most of a decade I did two things at once. In schools, I worked as a dance movement therapist with children, and counseled their parents. In research, I managed a social cognition and psychophysiology lab, and my PhD looked at how feelings spread between people in a group, and how our attachment styles shape that.
All of it came back to one question: how attuned we are to each other, and what happens when we are not. Today that question sits in most family living rooms, with a screen in the middle of it. That is the work I do now, with parents, with kids, and with both of them together.

What I believe
A screen ban stops at your front door. Critical thinking travels with them.
So the work is not only what to avoid. It is what to practice, and parents and kids practice it together.
I don't tell you when to give the phone. I help you be ready for the day you do, and for everything after. Every family is different. I bring the science and a framework, and you decide what fits your home. Rules that are understood, not just imposed, are the ones that hold.
Something for every part of the family.
For kids from elementary through high school, the adults who love them, and the schools and communities around them.
Talks for parents
- Common screen pitfalls. The mistakes most of us make, and what works better.
- Before the first phone. A readiness check and a family phone agreement you write with your kid.
- Screens and the body. Sleep, mood, focus and connection, through four hormones:
- Dopaminewanting more
- Cortisolstress
- Oxytocincloseness
- Melatoninsleep
One room, one language
Parents and kids learn side by side, build a shared language, and write a household agreement together.
How screens work on you
A fun, interactive course, elementary through high school, in schools or small groups. How apps hold attention, and how to stay in charge.
For middle and high school, the examples focus on friendships, group chats and social media.
Bring it to your group
Parent evenings, student sessions and enrichment programs, tailored to your school or community.
Family guidance
When screens have become a real source of conflict at home, we tailor the tools to your family.
No scary statistics. No shaming.
We look honestly at the common mistakes most of us make and the real science behind them, in plain language. Then we practice the conversations that are hard to start.
Parents leave with a plan they believe they can keep. When kids are in the room, they leave feeling respected instead of policed.
calm, curious, together- Research training. A PhD, years teaching statistics and research methods, and running a psychophysiology lab. I read studies at the source and know which ones hold up.
- Clinical practice. Years of therapy with children and counseling their parents, inside the school system.
- Recognized guidance. I work within established pediatric guidance, including the American Academy of Pediatrics' Family Media Plan.
- Kept current. This field changes fast. I follow new research, platform changes and policy as they land.
